Leaving Cambridge is The Most Cambridge Thing You Can Do

You moved to Cambridge for so many happy reasons.  School, job, etc.  You love your neighborhood, your friends nearby, your shops and restaurants.  Public transportation is nearby.  You feel at home.

Except…home isn’t perfect.  And no place is, but there will be upgrades if you leave Cambridge.  No one walking on your head.  Your own parking.  Laundry in your unit.  (When did you decide you couldn’t bear you and your neighbors moving each others’ skivvies around in the laundry room?)

And you want to be able to be outside!  In your own private space?  With your dog?  Your grill?  Your very own veggie garden!

Where do I even move?

Thinking about moving pulls you back and forth.  Move to get more things for less money.  Stay because your identity and lifestyle are Cambridge.

We work with clients in this spot everyday.  One of the very most popular answers to this conundrum is East Arlington.

Did you leave Cambridge if you are only two blocks over the line, near Alewife and Davis Square, and so many neighbors moved from Cambridge, too?  Truly, it is Cambridge+.  Cambridge Adjacent.

Townhomes in East Arlington

There is a little bit of a gap in the market, and if you have been looking for a place to move, you might have already noticed.

You can buy gorgeous townhouses in East Arlington, and throughout Arlington, that are large, have lots of space, lots of bathrooms, nice design, parking.  But they might actually more space than you need, and much more than you want to spend.

Upper duplexes

Then “upper duplexes” are an option that are not quite the list of features of the townhouses, but large and upstairs (no one walking on your head).  Maybe the top floor is good.  Maybe it’s kinda weird.  But they are still over a $1M.

Lower level units

To *not* spend a $1M, you are often forced to look at first floor units.  These units can meet many of your criteria, except people walking on your head.

Then there is a gap.  Units for less than $800k are often flats on the first floor, or first floor and some basement.  And everything else is over $1M

I meet many clients that will move farther away to get a unit with some space, and no one walking on their head, for under $1M.

Whether or not East Arlington is the place for you, we are here to help you design your next steps.
