“I lived in Hygge for one beautiful year during my Master’s program, but had visited frequently the year before during business trips. When I was traveling for work I would choose to stay in Hygge instead of 4-5 star hotels because of the community and warmth it brought me as a home away from home. When it became my home the next year, I jumped into supporting the community and LOVED my room with big windows and right next to the stairs! The community and openness made Hygge and incredible year – I learned so much, I loved so much and I carry over a lot of wonderful habits to my day to day life – such as going to farmers markets for produce (since the farmer’s market was so close to Hygge) and communicating clearly with friends. 10/10 would definitely do it again a thousand times over!”

Paul:

Hygge was a wonderful home for ten years. There were always people visiting and enjoying food in the kitchen. I frequently didn’t need to plan a social calendar since housemates would bring over new people, cook food, and invite me for board games.

I remember hosting jam sessions in the living room. My roommates and I build furniture. Even during the pandemic, we got together to make thousands of cookies for our lonely friends elsewhere.

Cooking together are some of my favorite memories. We would host dinner parties and make everything from fresh pasta, sushi, curry, and cookies. Cooking as a social activity is much better than cooking alone and living with people makes it easier to do every day.
