What are Montessori beds? By definition, these are beds inspired by the general principles of the Montessori Method. That children thrive when given the freedom to move and learn independently. So, in essence, a Montessori bed is a mattress close enough to the floor without restrictive railings around it, so that the child can get in and out of it by themselves.
While it can be scary to think of leaving your child alone without anything holding them at night or during sleep, floor beds have many benefits that do not compromise safety, so long as a few extra considerations are given to “child proof” the entirety of the bedroom.
We had fun playing around with this room. Or setting it up at least! While this specific room isn’t exactly baby-proofed, Montessori or floor beds can also be useful for toddlers and older kids. The canopy is an optional touch that we think kids of any age would appreciate. Just imagine the creative stories they’d come up with while trying to sleep!
