Spring clean your living areas

First on our list, deep clean your living room and dining areas! Grab your feather dusters, vacuum, rugs, and mops – we’re gonna work on deep cleaning every surface we can find.

Use a microfiber cloth or a damp rug to wipe down all surfaces in these rooms including shelves, windowsills, baseboards, and light fixtures. Wipe down side tables, chairs, and your tchotchkes gently to remove dust that’s gathered over the year. Next, vacuum the carpets and rugs – make sure to get under and around hard-to-reach corners! Finally, mop your hardwood floors and tiles. Use a damp rug to clean any stubborn stain/spot on your floor.

Inspect and clean your windows

Next up on our March maintenance checklist is your windows! Improve your view while making sure your windows are free from any damage which cant then affect your home’s HVAC.

Look for any damage or signs of rot on your window frame and replace any parts as needed. Also make sure the weather stripping is in good condition. Any damage could contribute to air leaks which will cost you more in the long run. Test the window operation, lubricate tracks as needed.

Once you’ve made the necessary repairs to your windows, it’s time to clean them! Start by dusting the window sills and frames. Then, clean and remove debris from window tracks. Lastly, polish the glass with a lint-free cloth. Make sure to wipe in the a circular motion and buff it dry with a clean cloth.

Organize your storage/garage

Organizing your storage and garage for spring is a great way to declutter, create more space, and make it easier to find things.

Start by sorting through all the items in your storage and garage. Separate items that you want to keep, donate, or throw away. Be ruthless and only keep items that you truly need or use. Use clear plastic containers to store items by category. Label each container with its contents and stack them neatly. This will help to keep your storage and garage organized and prevent items from getting lost.

Install shelves and hooks on the walls to maximize storage space. This will help you to keep items off the floor and make it easier to find things when you need them.

Check your home for additional repairs

Checking your home for repairs is an important task that should be done periodically to ensure that your home is in good condition and to address any issues before they become major problems.

Inspect the roof for any signs of damage, such as missing or cracked shingles, leaks, or damage from fallen debris. Clean out the gutters and downspouts to ensure that they are clear of debris and functioning properly. Inspect the foundation for any cracks or signs of settling.

Address any issues as soon as possible to prevent water damage, electrical issues, or fire hazards.

Clean the exterior

Cleaning the exterior of your home for spring is a great way to improve the appearance of your property and keep it in good condition.

Use a pressure washer or a garden hose to wash the siding of your home. If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can use a long-handled brush and a mild detergent to scrub the siding. Start at the top and work your way down, rinsing the siding as you go.

Up next is the gutters! Use a ladder to clean out the gutters and downspouts. Remove any debris or leaves that have accumulated in the gutters to prevent water damage. Lastly, clean your outdoor furniture with a mild detergent and water. Rinse the furniture thoroughly and let it dry in the sun.
